FSV UK collaborates on a successful international research Project supported by NCN and the Czech Science Foundation

The international research project "Displacement and (Post)secular Memory: Contemporary Crises and Historical Legacies in Southeastern and East-Central Europe" (MEMCRIS) has been awarded funding by Narodowe Centrum Nauki (NCN) in Poland and the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR). The project, which will officially launch on January 1, 2026, is led by Professor Joanna Wawrzyniak from the University of Warsaw (acting as the Lead Agency PI) and co-led on the Czech side by Professor Kateřina Králová from the Institute of International Studies at FSV UK, alongside Dr. Karin Roginer Hofmeister.

Over the course of three years, the six-member research team will explore how societies in Poland, Serbia, and Greece confront and reflect upon their histories of displacement, while navigating contemporary migration challenges. The project will focus on memory practices in museums, memorial sites, and religious institutions, examining how these spaces mediate between historical legacies and current crises.

This success was made possible through the WEAVE initiative, a European funding framework that promotes cross-border research collaborations through a simplified evaluation process. In this call, NCN served as the Lead Agency, with GAČR adopting its evaluation outcome. Altogether, GAČR is co-funding 22 new international projects in this round.
