Transfering to FSV UK

Is it possible to transfer to one of our programs?

Have you completed a few semesters at a different university and discovered that one of our programs might suit you better?
We are happy to accept students who want to transfer to FSV UK and welcome them into our academic community. Below is a guide on how to proceed.

Important notes:
All students always start their study at the beginning of the academic year, in October. It is not possible to start your degree study in the summer semester under any circumstances.

The deadline for transfer of credits is 6 years from obtaining the credits for Bachelor programs and 5 years for Master programs - older courses cannot be transferred.

1) Apply for the program of choice

To transfer, you have to submit a regular application to the program's first year. Our How to apply step-by-step guide will help you with the process.

When you create your application, make sure to add transcripts from your current study in the attachments as well - the added experience will definitely strengthen your profile during evaluation. You will receive the results approximately 3-4 weeks after the application deadline. Should you be accepted, we will then guide you through the enrollment and orientation in September of the respective year.

This means that formally, you will start as a first-year. However, you will be able to have your credits and passed courses recognized (see next steps) in the new study. At FSV UK, your graduation date depends on fulfillment of your study obligations, not the number of finished semesters, so you don’t have to study the full length of the degree - if you are done with your obligations and have enough credits, you can graduate in a year without any limitations.

2) Figure out what to transfer

After successful enrollment, you will meet up with your program coordinator/supervisor and bring the transcripts from your previous study. Together, you will determine which of your passed courses can be recognized for the new study.

The program can transfer those courses that correspond in content and scope with the study plan of your new program). I.e., if you have already done a "Economics 101" course and the new program's study plan has a "Basics of Economy" course that is similar, it may be recognized and the credits will count for your new study. You will also not have to pass them again, so if this is a mandatory course, the obligation to pass it will be fulfilled.

We recommend checking the curriculum of your chosen program to estimate which of your passed courses might be similar to ours.

Additionally, every program allows for a part of your study curriculum to consist of "Optional" courses, which are entirely up to you. You can fill this portion of the study credits with your transferred ones.

3) Submit the transfer request

Finally, once you know which courses you want transferred and recognized, you will simply fill out a request form to complete the administrative portion of the process.

  • You can find the forms here under "Transferring credits" - choose the one labeled "Transfer of credit form - previous study at a different university". You can alternatively select "previous study at Faculty of Social Sciences", if that applies to you.

  • Once you are done with the form, have your program supervisor sign it. Don't forget to attach the relevant documents like transcript of records, so we have proof of what grades you have achieved.

  • After the form is signed, please bring it to the International Office in the Hollar building, room no. 217, bring it to the mail room of the Hollar building or send it to degreeprograms@fsv.cuni.cz. We will arrange for the Vice-Dean to go over and sign your request.

  •  As soon as the Vice-Dean approves your Request, the International Office will proceed with the administration and inform you via email.
